“Sicheii Yazhi” (sich-ey’ yah’-zhee) is the name given to me by a Navajo medicine man named Mike. It means “little grandfather.”
I believe in the importance and power of education. In the words of Elie Wiesel: “I have no doubt that education is good for the soul, not only for the mind.” All of the topics below and most of the posts on this blog relate, in some way, to my general interest in and concerns about education.
These are the subjects about which I tend to write on this blog:
- Education:
- alternative educational systems and educational reform
- best practices for writing instruction and effective critical analysis
- the role of the affective domain and the impact of the environment
- the application of cognitive sciences to educational practices, particularly in terms of theories of learning and creativity
- the role of education in social justice and reform movements and projects
- Technology:
- impact on education, particularly the teaching of writing
- safety and “acceptable use policies” in schools
- impact on privacy and identity
- impact on entertainment, particularly literature and film
- impact on copyright/intellectual property law
- Cultural Studies
- folklore, mythology, and cultural anthropology
- consciousness and learning theory
- philosophy, religion, and spirituality
- popular culture, sociology, and social theory
- literary, film, and media theory
